Suspension, Isolation and Punishment

Your child with special needs is involved in a school-related incident that seems to violate the code of conduct.  Your school district uses these disciplinary guidelines as a basis to suspend your child stating he was being “disruptive” and interrupted the learning environment for other students. will provide you with the criteria for supporting your child in this situation.  All students with a 504 or IEP plan must have a “Manifestation” meeting, to determine if the behavior exhibited during this incident was in fact a “manifestation” of their disability.  If so, a BIP or Behavioral Intervention Plan must be implemented and your child cannot be suspended. will guide you through this process and even give you an example of what a sound Behavioral Intervention Plan looks like.
